It's a map. Every car/home should have one. While GPS and our omni-presence phones often provide just the navigation we need, nothing can hack a paper map. Expect maybe fire, fire would really screw this map up.
If you need street-level detail of a specific area, this isn't going to help you. But this does show all major highways and some other major roads, so it's very helpful for providing a high-level look at where you are and where you need to be. When you're out of cellphone range, it's good to have something like this as a backup.
These maps are great for genealogy purposes. They make it easier to see where ancestors lived decades ago, what the landscape was like, etc.They are very good for tracing their travel from east to west.
While I favor Delorme and Benchmark maps for detail, this Rand McNally map gives me the big picture which is great when driving cross country. I can't count the number of these maps I've trusted and worn ragged through the years. Before putting this one to work, I taped all the folds with clear packing tape.
I got this map to help plot my course from east coast to west coast, intending to avoid Interstates and major highways. The problem is this map and its associated Western and Eastern US kin show very little other than Interstates and major highways. It's okay for the big picture, but unless you're looking for the fastest route you'll need the Web or a more detailed map to fill in the blanks
It's a map.Works as it should.Only wish they made one with elevations/topography which would come in handy for picking a route whilist towing.
I wanted a wide-ranging printed map of the region for an emergency kit. This fits the bill.
I like paper maps for planning my travel. I can see everything together. This map is durable.
