About the Author
A former English professor and Shakespearean scholar, Michael McIntosh was also widely known as one of the best-known gun and sporting writers in the world. His writings appeared in numerous shooting and gun-dog magazines and he wrote more than a dozen books, including A.H. Fox, Wild Things, Robert Ruark’s Africa, and Shotguns and Shooting. He died in 2010.

He earned this position through many years of hard work. There are not many people who have seen or experienced as much about the world of shotguns as Michael McIntosh. Is this the definitive book about the international world of shotguns? No, it is not. The industry is so large and diverse that it will take a publisher with very deep pockets to one day produce that definitive book. It is too bad that Michael McIntosh did not get the opportunity to write that definitive work. Until that work is one day published, "Best Shotguns" will serve as a well written guide for all shotgun enthusiasts.
I love Mr. McIntosh's writings. Can't recommend this one highly enough, if you're into British shotguns. Well worth having on your bookshelf.

Michael McIntosh is one of the "Good Guy" writers with enough experience with vintage break guns to be credible, an engaging writing style, and an appropriate sense of scope so that this never becomes a tome. A real must read for two-piper fans.that you'll refer to again and again.,

This is a rare gem: well written by the best writer of his and several other generations. He conveys his love of fine guns along with an encylopedic knowledge of the subject. It's a classic: a must have for all who love fine writing, and long days afield with fine dogs and good friends. Well done Michael.
McIntosh is a polished writer on classic "best" double barrel shotguns. His coverage of American doubles is enlightening. He has a penchant for Fox guns, but that does not deter his coverage. It is a good read for those with a general or historical interest in double barrel shotguns, domestic or foreign.
