Review
"Slutever is a funny, surprising, and ultimately enlightening book. Karley Sciortino is a natural-born killer of outmoded ways of thinking about love, sex, and personal agency. Generation slut has found a thoughtful, articulate voice." ― Christopher Ryan, Ph.D. (Co-author of Sex at Dawn: How We Mate, Why We Stray, and What It Means for Modern Relationships) "Karley is the mad aunt every proto-slut should have. Hilarious *and* informative. I genuinely wish I'd had this book when I was a teen. I suspect it would have helped me make sense of the world and myself a lot faster." ― Stoya, pornographer

While too much time is spent trying to justify her solidly self established Slut label, there are some real gems of thought here. One is that lesbians theorectically have a better sex life since they are not reliant on the male erection. Another is that even if a male is involved there is much that the parties can do that have nothing to do with the male erection although this presents many more possibilities for the female orgasm.Other than mentioning that she was diagnosed with gonorrhea of the throat and that she hoped that her free range partners didn't catch herpes there is no apparent concern for the potentially fatal consequences of multiple sex partners. If there ever was a reason to avoid slutdom at Karley's level, the significant possibilities for contagion of some really nasty stuff would be it. In Karley's case willful ignorance is indeed bliss. While Karley illustrates well with descriptions of various trysts she has had over the years, remarkable there is no discussion of male organ size or performance levels. While this is consistent with her vague references to sexual techniques generally ("fisting is overrated') it seems like a deliberate omission.Karley writes very well. She keeps engaging except during the almost overwhelming prologue. It's a good read although be clear that Karley avoids being salacious whenever possible. Overall a very good book.
After enjoying Karley Sciortino's Viceland television series, I decided to get her book and I'm glad I did. In addition to being well-written, funny, and generally entertaining, I found it to be very thought-provoking as well. I applaud Ms. Sciortino's brutally honest (at least it seemed honest, perhaps she was faking it - guys can never tell!) self-examination of her sexual experiences and desires. It definitely made me think more about my attitudes about sexuality and intimate relationships and what I really want for the sexual aspect of my own life.
All good social science has a frame of reference for examining the social condition and the historical advantages and inadequacies of our mores and principals, this book does that brilliantly. It is about sex, but like reading about race or capitalism or whatever, it is more about identity within a form, defined personally also societally; what IS the best way to navigate this existential crisis. I would highly recommend this book as someone initially skeptical and inevitably deeply moved by the author's candor and clarity. It is not a great book "if you like," it is a great book.
Excellently written. She brings in personal stories with documented sexual research. This book is going to blow up. Get ready for a wild ride, readers! Expand the horizons of your mind and the limits of your comfort zones. A must read for anyone interested in feminism and female sexuality.
Such a good read! Currently listening on Audible and I love it so much I had to order the paperback version. Very funny and informative with a lot of insight into different aspects of sexuality. I absolutely recommend this read.
The author has a great personal style, completely open and shameless, very good sense of humor and great anecdotes. You will reflect a lot while reading on her views. It has a lighthearted feeling, like a nice read on the Subway, but at the same time it will give you good conversation
Similar to the ‘Magical School Bus’, Karly takes the reader on journey through landscape of a sexually liberated woman. Challenging modern culture’s sexual norms and expectations, and freeing women from the chains of a boring life. This book will force readers to think about what they want out of life and relationships. Slutever is an incredible book that challenges monogamy and traditional relationships, and asks the question “does one size fit all†in sex and relationships.Highly recommend this book to all modern women who are questioning what kind of relationships works for them. I loved reading about Karly’s adventures in all things love, life, men, and career. Slutever has helped me fully come to terms with my desires as a woman.
24 hours ago I had no idea who Karley Sciortino was. After stumbling across her Slutever videos (youtube went from gender challenging performance art to the Japanese boyfriend experience, who was I to complain?) and binge watching those, while debating which of her interviewees she had sex with before, with my partner (he totally won on the Morman pornographer btw), I bought this book.I don't think I have ever highlighted as many passages in a book before. Karley's observations and experiences are vivid and honest, wrapped up as humorous anecdotes on modern sex and relationships. As part of the generation who's coming of age definition of romance was pre-internet, her perspectives hit home with this millennial. Will I read it a second time? Probably not. But I will be recommending that other women read her story. I will be re-telling the truisms, and anecdotes that struck chords with me, with my other sex-positive friends (and those I want to be more sex positive), in the hopes we can live to experience and have sex in a post-shame world.
