I don't write many reviews. But felt compelled to praise this book - mostly because I did not expect to love this book. As a lower-intermediate player (playing for just over a year) I find this book perfect for my abilities. I can usually learn a song in about 1 hour (by learn, I mean that after an hour I can stumble my way through the song by memory). It will still take many days or weeks to really get good at it. But the songs are wonderful. I also really like the size and fonts used in this book. The physical size of the book is larger than most others that I own, and the fonts are larger - makes it much easier to read the tabs. Even though we all know these Beatles songs through and through, I still find it helpful to be able to hear the song played as it has been arranged. Well, Fred has made that available for all of the songs in this book (I don't think most people know this). On youtube, under the channel "Fred Sokolow - Topic" you can hear each and every one of the songs in this book played exactly as presented in the book. Thank you Fred. I wish more authors would do this. You can also go have a listen to see what these arrangements will sound like before you buy to see if they appeal to you. So glad I bought this book!
This just arrived today. I have not used it yet, just viewed it, so I am not sure if their interpretations of these Beatles songs are to my liking. If they are not, I will post an addition to this review later. I have bought "Beatles for Ukulele" books before, base on the songs listed. Many of them I did not care for in structure, print or size. WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THIS BOOK. It is organized and printed well, not tiny and light. They start each song with a short story. They show complete sheet music, with words, chords and tabs. I will post photos so you can see the break down. The photos will not be full pages. Buy the book for full pages. :)
I wish there were a hundred more books like this one. I love that it provides the chords for the songs, but also the tab for fingerpicking the melody and chords. I can play the songs solo, or as a background for people to sing along with. Most of the songs are easy to moderate in difficulty, and I had no difficulty as a beginner navigating them. I would recommend this to any ukulele player who loves the Beatles.
You will LOVE this book. My personal thanks to the author! There ARE tabs for finger picking ALL songs. Even my instructor enjoys this book. I"m a beginner, and this book is so fun I can't wait to play daily. As a beginner, the first time I played from the book, my husband was surprised at how soon I played something he recognized. If you're a beginner, I recommend avoiding the syncopated songs at first (eg can't buy my love, and i love her). Start with Norwegian wood.
cheap way of maybe a kindle document. This is an image, not dynamically formatting text. It is too small to read on your kindle as you play, and if you blow it up, it then goes off the screen rather than reformatting.
What makes the ukulele so much fun is its ability to have others join in, and everyone knows these hits. Good book to sit down and start playing some of the best music ever. Well written, easy to read, and great range from a long career of hits. I wish this was the first book I bought when I started playing the uke.
My bad. Had I READ the copy and SEEN whose arrangements these were, I'd have known they weren't for me. Advanced, difficult for the fun of difficult arrangements of what *could* be fun Beatles tunes to pick. Threw it in the bottom of a drawer.
Nice little arrangements of Beatle songs that you can play solely as instrumentals without singing, if you choose. Each song has chord diagrams, under that the melody plus lyrics, under that the instrumental arrangement written with notes on a staff, and finally the tablature.I was pleasantly surprised, works on many levels.
