My 4mo only baby got a really bad cold with cough. Since they recommend not giving cough medicine I was worried about him. My friend suggested I use an onion poultice from this book. I used it and he slept so good that night and not only did it help with his cough but it helped with all of his cold symptoms! I was so happy I immediately ordered this book. Some of the things in it are outdated but most of the information is very helpful! I love that it talks about how to do a newborn assessment. I don't really like how it is organized. It's organized by the symptom/sickness. And then the treatments are in the back of the book. Otherwise there is a lot of good ideas and information about how to take care of your infant and child. I feel a lot less worried now that I have this book to take care of my children.
I really love this book. It tells you everything you need to know without having to go to the doctor. These remedies are safe and effective. When my daughter had a fever, we didn't run right out to the doctor or hospital. We simply flipped through the pages of this book and felt better knowing that we made her feel better. She was also really colicky the first month. Did you know there are at least 20 different remedies you can try? Neither did we, because if you take your kid to the doctor, they don't give you something that is safe and effective. This book iis worth it and will definitely be used for many years to come.
I got this book when my kids were over the toddler stage and I noticed quite a bit referring to babies, but I find it great for the older ones too. It is a sensible book written by medical people. I always like to refer to it and try to solve the problem to try to avoid having to go to a doctor. I'd like to get a few and give these as baby shower gifts. A valuable book!
This is a great book though some of the information does need to be updated since this was printed in 1990.
This is an older book so I was thinking it may have more 'old school' natural remedies but it's just an ok book as some of the treatments are not what I would consider 'natural' at all. For example: Impetigo Contagiosa treatment suggests using bleach and water for stubborn scabs. Or bleach and dishwashing detergent.Save your money, there are better books out there with true natural solutions for your child.
This is one of the best natural child care books I have ever come across. It is well-researched and not only tells you what you can do naturally to help your child but the pros and cons of conventional and holistic treatments...I used it all throughtout my child's early years and saved me a lot of worrying with its great advice and description of symptoms so that I could easily determine the cause of the problem for my child. It is an excellent book that no home should be without, if the parents want to treat their child with safe, easy to find ingredients, and if they want to avoid harmful pharmaceuticals. I am grateful to the writers for having provided such a truly practical, enlightening book to help one to navigate the ups and downs of childhood.
I am always looking for natural ways to heal my children so when I discovered this book I was so excited. I love the information they give and feel at peace knowing that I am using natural remedies. A must have for families with children.
